The Edmonton Salvation Army celebrates its 120th anniversary by holding a Donut Day

In celebration of its 120th anniversary, The Salvation Army in Edmonton set up shop in historic Fort Edmonton Park and handed out 1,000 donuts to visitors. The Salvation Army "opened fire" in Edmonton on July 6, 1893.

As well as a gesture of appreciation to Edmontonians for 120 years of support, the donuts commemorated a Salvation Army tradition, dating back to the First World War, when Army volunteers gave donuts to troops on the front lines to boost morale.
