The Information Technology Department offers a wide variety of services for users across the Canada and Bermuda Territory. It researches emerging technology and appropriately establishes territorial guidelines for the purchase and use of hardware and software.
In order to minimize costs across the territory, the IT Department provides a number of consulting services while honoring the autonomy of the divisional headquarters (DHQ) and ministry unit. Contracts are negotiated with various vendors and prices are extended to DHQ and ministry units. Standards are set for both hardware and software to facilitate interoperability between locations and/or to minimize the overall support costs.
There are many forms available for use by Salvation Army personnel. When a new person is hired, a Network Access Request Form must be completed to request network and computer accounts. A form to request Lotus Notes on a mobile device is required if you desire to be able to read your e-mail on a mobile phone or tablet device. There are forms for financial Request to Charge, Staff Travelling Order, Voucher, Requisition and Officer Payroll. National Recycling Operations also has many forms for a wide variety of purposes. The Information Technology Support Library provides a variety of resources for users. You will find answers to frequently asked questions, solutions to common errors and issues in many of our software programs, and TIPS to improve your use and knowledge of various software programs. You can peruse the ITSL by clicking each link to open up categories, subcategories, and concise articles, or you can use the search feature available to quickly locate the information you are interested in. The IT Department purchases all software for the territory and maintains a License Tracking Database. For certain software products, such as Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes, it is necessary for everyone to purchase through the IT Department to obtain the significant charitable discounts the vendor provides. In addition, software licensing can be very complex and failure to comply at the ministry unit level could jeopardize the pricing across the territory. The IT Department manages the licenses to minimize risks.
The IT Department facilitates the purchase of computers for the territory, providing a list of recent promotions and placing orders requested by THQ, DHQ and ministry units.

In order for technology to be utilized, users need to know what systems are available and how to use them. Accordingly, the IT Department provides online training sessions using Go To Meeting and a teleconference telephone line. The training section uses two main formats for training:
- User paced (from saDashboard): Each application has a set of training modules which anyone can view. The modules are divided into five-minute segments so training can occur over several days and going back to refresh on a topic is easy.
- Real time: Online sessions are regularly scheduled. Sessions typically last for one hour. These sessions cover an entire topic in detail and offer a Q & A for users. DHQs and ministry units can request a specific online training session if desired.
The training section also publishes user handbooks that outline the information covered in each training session. These handbooks are available for download by users from saDashboard, Technical Support, Training.
