Booth University College has announced a $2.6 million expansion plan that significantly increases its capacity by establishing a new School for Continuing Studies and a Business/Learning Centre in downtown Winnipeg – just a short distance from Booth's main campus located at 447 Webb Place.
The expansion is designed to create additional space to accommodate Booth's growing student body and program needs; to enhance its online learning program and make programs more widely available; and to better serve the education and training needs of The Salvation Army. Development of the new School for Continuing Studies will make Winnipeg the educational hub for The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda.
“The Salvation Army has been providing social services to Canadians for more than 130 years, but as the complexity of its mission increases so does its need for quality education and training of its personnel,” says Dr. Donald Burke, president of Booth University College. “Today's announcement will ensure that need is met, and will help support the Army – the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in the country – in its mission to provide essential support to society's most vulnerable.”
Construction will begin in the spring on the renovation of approximately 4,000 square feet of space in 290 Vaughan Street, where Booth's new School for Continuing Studies and Business/Learning Centre will be located. This historic building already houses Booth's John Fairbank Memorial Library, The Salvation Army's College for Officer Training and the Army's Prairie Divisional Headquarters.
Information technology will be centre stage at the new facility. The Business/Learning Centre will include three new classrooms which will be fully equipped to provide a range of educational and training opportunities. The state-of-the-art information technology infrastructure will increase and enhance learning opportunities. Online seminars and workshops will be available to a wide audience. Added to Booth's online learning platform—Booth Online—students, Salvation Army personnel and others will have access to a range of for-credit and not-for-credit learning opportunities. Construction will be completed by the end of 2014.
“This new school will help Booth emerge as the centre for Salvation Army leadership development training and education for the full range of its personnel. In addition, the school will become the vehicle for Booth's continuing and expanded service to the international Salvation Army and to organizations and individuals outside the Army,” says Dr. Burke. “The opportunities that will be available through Booth's School for Continuing Studies are limited only by our imaginations as we create an education and training resource for The Salvation Army and the community at large.”

Some courses cost over $3,000 and if the student has to pay for accommodation and meals on top of that, it can prove very expensive. Not everyone can afford to study at Booth College.
Officers, as far as I am aware do not have this expense. Officership training is paid for by the Salvation Army.
The courses on offer, associated costs etc are available on their website.
