The Salvation Army will be making a “splash” at the Pan Am Games this month.

As part of More Than Gold, a network of Christian individuals, churches, denominations and organizations providing hospitality, outreach and service during the Pan Am and Parapan Pam Games, The Salvation Army is participating in the Cup of Cold Water Project.

More than 400 volunteers will be serving at water stations throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Golden Horseshoe, offering cold water in biodegradable cups to anyone in need. There will be stationary sites equipped with canopies, tables and chairs for rest and shade. As well, roaming volunteers equipped with backpacks full of water will circulate at shuttle and transit hubs.

And just in time for the Pan Am Games, The Salvation Army has prepared a special summer edition of Faith & Friends and Foi & Vie. The sports-themed issue features athletes whose faith helps them focus on and off the playing field.

Besides the usual print run, 45,000 extra copies of Faith & Friends and 15,000 additional copies of Foi & Vie were printed to distribute to the visitors from all over North America who are flocking to the games. In addition, 15,000 copies of a special Spanish edition of the magazine (Fe y Amigos) were prepared, a first for The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda, to cater to the large influx of Spanish-speaking athletes, coaches and visitors.

“We're proud of our editorial team's initiative in producing our special summer Pan Am Games issue. It's also an opportunity to reach out to our Spanish visitors and spread the gospel in their own language,” says editor-in-chief Geoff Moulton.
