On June 26, The Salvation Army’s territorial magazines, website and digital media won 18 awards from the Canadian Christian Communicators Association (formerly Canadian Church Press) in a ceremony held on that organization’s Facebook page.

The editorial team took home three prestigious General Excellence awards, two for its magazines, Faith & Friends (1st place) and Salvationist (3rd place), and one for Salvationist.ca website (3rd place). Overall, Salvationist took home six awards, Faith & Friends received eight, the digital media categories garnered three and Foi & Vie, the Army’s French publication, received one.

Territorial headquarters’ marketing and communications team took home 2nd place in the newly created Marketing Campaign category for their “Everyone Needs an Army” campaign. Also highlighted was the editorial department’s use of social media, which earned top prize. The awards were given for work published in the 2019 calendar year.

Lt-Colonel John P. Murray, secretary for communications, notes, “We celebrate with our THQ communications editorial team and our contributors from program services, candidates, Ethics Centre and world missions as together we recognize the creative excellence and substantive written contributions that garnered significant recognition.”

The Canadian Christian Communicators Association includes representatives from approximately 60 member publications, including mainline, Catholic and evangelical churches. Member publications were invited to enter in more than 30 categories. The awards were judged by accomplished journalists and academics from both the religious and secular media.
