Moldova

Moldova, officially the Republic of MoldoOthers Program Moldova imageva, is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe.  The office language is Romanian.

          Embroidery is a traditional craft of Moldova.  Until recently, women in every household and in every village decorated handmade clothes, curtains, tablecloths and towels.

          Mamaliuga, a hard corn porridge, is regarded as the national dish.  It is poured on a flat surface in the shape of a big cake and is served mainly with cheese, sour cream or milk.

          The Salvation Army started work in Moldova in 1993.  The ministry of the Army in Moldova includes work in the after school centers, a mobile medical clinic, a women’s prison project, a shoe project, humanitarian aid distribution and work with invalids.

          The OTHERS initiative began in Moldova in 2009.  Products produced include fine linen and embroidered designs.

          There are currently 10 OTHERS producers in Moldova.
