With only a few days before Christmas, “Salvation Army Week” is proclaimed in the City of Toronto. A Salvation Army flag raising took place at Toronto City Hall on Monday, December 19 at 10:30 a.m. to mark the commencement of the week, which will continue until Monday, December 26, 2011.
The Salvation Army Christmas Brass Ensemble and Major John Murray, divisional secretary for public relations and development, Ontario Central-East, were present. City Councillor Frances Nunsiata, Ward 11 York South-Weston, read the proclamation on behalf of city council and Toronto’s Mayor Rob Ford, who is encouraging everyone to support The Salvation Army this holiday season.
The mayor recognizes The Salvation Army’s contributions to the city through the annual Christmas Kettle fundraiser and CTV Toy Mountain campaign. In 2011, the Army in Toronto is aiming to raise $3 million through the kettles and 150,000 toys through Toy Mountain.
