Why Aren’t You Weeping?
** Update: This conference has been deferred to 2010. **
While human trafficking is presently the “issue of the day” in The Salvation Army, the topic is foreign and far removed from most of us in ministry. However, the contributing factors to human trafficking are realities that exist in the lives of most communities and families. No Salvationist or Christian can avoid addressing the issues of pornography, domestic violence, abuse and the influence of media.
In an effort to educate and motivate Salvationists, the territorial program department, women’s ministries and the territorial abuse advisor is hosting a conference that poses the question, “Why aren’t you weeping about human trafficking?” The Why Aren’t You Weeping Conference will be held at Jackson’s Point, Ont., from November 13-15. The goal of the conference is to equip attendees with the strategies needed to focus on issues locally and to develop ministry ideas to address these concerns. As men and women gather together to discuss the issues and discover ways to promote peace through prevention, we expect renewed passion and discernment on these issues.
We anticipate that God will use this weekend to challenge any sense that we cannot make a difference on the world stage. It is our hope that the question, “Why aren’t you weeping?” will become a declaration … “While women weep, I’ll fight!”
