Lieutenant Commissioner - 1920 to 1974
From 1917 to March 1920, the Rank of "Acting-Commissioner" had been granted, hover in 1920 it was superseded by that of Lieutenant-Commissioner, entitling the bearer to a seat on the High Council.
The Rank of Lieutenant Commissioner was reserved for senior leaders within the Salvation Army. One rank above Colonel and one rank below that of a full Commissioner.
The trim of a Lieutenant Commissioner can be easily confused with the trim of a full Commissioner.
The trim of a Lieutenant Commissioner consisted of a silver braid on the outer edge of a black braid which encircled a crimson plush epaulet.
The high collar is a crimson plush patch with a silver “S” with a crest. The bottom of the crest is a floral wreath which other ranks lower that Lieutenant Commissioner do not have.
The sleeve trimming is a silver cord on each side of a black braid.
The rank of Lieutenant Commissioner became obsolete in 1974.
