1. At creation's mystic birth, darkness covered all the earth,
Till by His creative might, God ordained "Let there be light"
Golden glory spread its wings, blessing all created things,

2. But on earth where evil reigned, men in darkness still remained,
Till in due time there came One, Light of men, e'en God's own Son,
Token of His saving grace, To a blind and erring race.

3. He who came, to heav'n returned, But in new-born souls there burned
Light and Truth He bade them spread, Till all men were to Him led,
We, 0 Lord, are pledged to be, Bearers of that Light for Thee.
