We're launching a new territory-wide process to support and equip all CCM volunteers with the tools they need to serve safely, confidently, and compassionately.

This updated onboarding pathway reflects The Salvation Army's commitment to creating safe ministry environments while supporting the practical needs of today's volunteer teams.

The Onboarding Pathway

All CCM volunteers will now complete two key steps:

1) Volunteer Onboarding via Volunteer Services)

All new and returning CCM volunteers begin with standardized onboarding through Volunteer Services, which includes:

  • Role-based screening and approval
  • General orientation and abuse prevention training
  • Accessibility and safety basics

Your corps will guide you through this initial step before beginning your CCM-specific training.

For questions about how these updates apply to your CCM team, please visit https://salvationist.ca/volunteer/ or contact volunteer.services@salvationarmy.ca

2) CCM Training Modules

After Volunteer Services onboarding, volunteers complete a series of short, focused modules tailored to Community Care Ministries. These modules build capacity for compassionate and effective ministry in a variety of settings:

  • Compassionate Listening - Learn how to be fully present and attentive in every interaction.
  • Maintaining Healthy Boundaries - Understand what appropriate support looks like in a ministry setting.
  • Privacy Protocols - Protect the dignity and personal information of those you serve.
  • Supporting Caregivers - Offer practical and emotional support to those caring for others.
  • Serving Vulnerable Populations - Develop awareness and sensitivity when engaging with individuals who may be at greater risk.

Why This Matters

These updates reflect our shared mission to serve others with integrity, empathy, and Christlike care. The refreshed process ensures all CCM volunteers are well-prepared and supported-because how we serve matters just as much as what we do.

Getting Started

If you're interested in volunteering with CCM, speak to your local CCM Coordinator or Corps Officer. They'll help you begin the process and ensure you're set up for success in this meaningful ministry.
