National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Each year, September 30 marks Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, to raise awareness of the impact of Indian residential schools, remember the children who never returned home and honour survivors, their families and communities. The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda is committed to recognizing this day and taking intentional steps on the journey to reconciliation.

Whether your ministry unit is just beginning its reconciliation journey or you’re already on the reconciliation path but looking to take more steps to further your journey, the below resources will help spark conversations, grow understanding and build reconciliation with Indigenous communities.

    Reconciliation is Healing Prayer Video

Truth and Reconciliation Sunday is a time to learn, listen, and take steps on our reconciliation journey. This video is a prayer for healing, hope, transformation and God's guidance at every step. This video can be used as a prayer during worship or at other ministry events.

    Indigenous Artist Series Worship Videos

A great friend to the Salvation Army, Jonathan Maracle (Mohawk) wrote and performed Life is a Sacred Gift & Healing in our Land. Reflecting on his own journey as a follower of Jesus and an Indigenous man, Jonathan blends his love for Jesus and his culture together to create beautiful worship songs. These songs are offered as a music video (that you can play in worship or other ministry events).
