COLONEL ALBERT POWLEY

Albert Powley became a soldier of the Marylehome Corps at the age of seventeen, immediately following a visit to the penitent-form.

In 1889, at the age of 21, he became an Officer and was sent as a Lieutenant to a hard-Scottish Corps where he had the depressing experience of closing the Corps and seeing his Captain go home ill. Other Corps followed in due course. In all he had eight field appointments, after which he served as Helper at four Divisional and Provincial Headquarters.

IN 1896, the Colonel was appointed Private Secretary to the British Commander. Other important Staff appointments followed – Staff Secretary for the British National Headquarters, Private Secretary for British affairs to the General, the responsibility for the Staff Training College.

His next appointment was the General Secretary for the International Training Garrison.

From the Garrison, in 1913, the Colonel was appointed to New Zealand as Chief Secretary where he spent three years before being appointed as Field Secretary for Australia. At the beginning of 1921 he was appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Australia Southern Territory.

On November 1, 1923 Colonel Powley assumed responsibility as Chief Secretary for the Canada East Territory.
