STAFF-CAPTAIN JOHN MARGETTS
Staff-Captain Margetts entered the Army Training Home in London, England in October 1882. After nine weeks’ drill, he qualified himself for a Field appointment, and went to his first Corps at Merthyr Tydvil, Wales.
This promising Captain was next appointed as a A.D.C. to the Reading Headquarters of the Southern Division, England. After two years of service in this position, he filled a similar appointment at the Birmingham Headquarters, and from there came to Canada.
When Staff-Captain Margetts arrived at Toronto ion May 23, 1885, he was appointed to the oversight of the Hamilton Division and editor of the War Cry.
With the death of Staff Captain Eastwood in August of that same year, John Margetts was then appointed A.D.C. (Aide-de-Camp) to the Territorial Commander, a position which was the forerunner to our current Chief Secretary’s position today.
