COLONEL ROY CALVERT

Roy Calvert was born to officer parents in Ontario and educated as an architectural draftsman. Prior to entering the College for Officer Training, he worked in building design.

Following his commissioning as a Salvation Army officer in 1951, he served in corps and public relations assignments in Ontario and British Columbia. In 1955, an appointment to the Publicity and Special Efforts Department included responsibility for producing radio programs and involvement in the early days of television production. He coordinated the 1965 Army centennial celebrations in Canada and the contingent to the Congress in England.

In 1965, the Colonel served as Divisional Youth Secretary in the Ontario Metro Division. Two corps appointments followed: Calgary Glenmore Temple for over five years where a modern citadel was erected, and St. John's Temple in Newfoundland. He was then appointed as Divisional Secretary, Ontario South Division followed by appointment as Territorial Youth Secretary.

Colonel and Mrs. Calvert took up responsibility as Divisional Leaders for the British Columbia South Division in 1983 where several innovative projects were launched including a new Harbour Light facility.

With the restructuring of administration in 1986, the Colonel returned to Territorial Headquarters as the first Secretary for Program with responsibility for church growth, evangelism, publications, corps and social programs and Red Shield Services. In 1987, the Colonel became Field Secretary for Personnel and continued in this responsibility up to his appointment as Chief Secretary for the Australia Eastern and Papua New Guinea Territory in 1989.

On his return to Canada in July of 1992, he was appointed as Chief Secretary.

Ruth Calvert became a Salvation Army Officer from Port Hope, Ontario and was commissioned in 1955.  Corps appointments followed prior to her marriage in 1956.

Joining her husband in the Publicity and Special Efforts Department at Territorial Headquarters, she worked as a Secretary.

Divisional and corps appointments were shared until 1986.  Upon returning to T.H.Q., Mrs. Calvert was appointed as the Assistant Territorial Home League and Ministry to Women Secretary.  In 1987, she was appointed Territorial League of Mercy Secretary.

Upon transfer to the Australia Eastern and Papua New Guinea Territory in 1989, Mrs. Calvert served as the Vice-President of Women's Organizations.
