Captain Laura Van Schaick

I count it a privilege to have been actively involved in the work of gender equity in The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory for many years, as a member of the task force, working group, and gender equity committee. Now as Gender Equity Officer and chair of the gender equity committee, I look forward to using all that I have learned from countless advocates and allies to continue this important work.

Having served in territorial and divisional roles, and currently serving as Corps Officer at The Salvation Army Barrhaven Church in Ottawa, I have seen and experienced first-hand how The Salvation Army's theology of equity is not always reflected in the lived experiences of women officers. I am thankful for the opportunity to work towards closing this gap.
