Foundational Leadership Certification (FLC)

FLC aims to develop leadership capabilities that benefit participants both professionally and personally, integrating expertise from:

  • Harvard Business School professionals and leadership experts
  • Mission partners across the Canada and Bermuda Territory

Advanced Leadership Certification (ALC)

ALC is designed for leaders who are looking to dive deeper into Harvard ManageMentor® and discuss how leadership theory gets applied in ministry. This self-directed, online program deepens participants' understanding of strategic leadership, change management and decision-making—critical skills for leading with impact and advancing the mission of The Salvation Army.

Eligibility: Participants must be in a people leadership role, have two-years full-time experience with The Salvation Army and have their supervisor’s approval to apply for this program.

Prerequisite: Completion of the Foundational Leadership Certification.

Next Steps: Graduates are eligible to apply for the LEADS Applied Leadership Certification and the Emerging Leaders Leadership Certification.

Rachel Wells - FLC Testimonial

Developing action plans is a critical component of the Foundational Leadership Course (FLC), powered by Harvard Business Publishing and offered to The Salvation Army's employees and officers in Canada and Bermuda Territory. In the FLC course, I created an action plan to deepen my understanding of effective leadership. In this plan, I set out to engage others by facilitating an environment of collaboration and cooperation through the creation of a scavenger hunt. The first time I organized the scavenger hunt, I had to go around begging my staff to sign up. Later, the staff were asking, "Are we doing the scavenger hunt again next year?" And just like that, it ended up being our annual thing. This year, I had 18 staff participate!
