Spiritual and Religious Care

Introduction to Salvation Army Spiritual and Religious Care

Salvation Army Chaplains are trained to assist individuals to identify, affirm, and use their own spiritual and religious beliefs, human values and faith to support, sustain and inform them in times of crisis, need or recovery.  The Salvation Army Chaplain will discern a client's beliefs and values and plan appropriate action to support spiritual growth and life transformation.  Well-trained chaplains who know and understand their role and field of ministry bring the discipline of theology and spiritual care to the client, and to the staff team in each Salvation Army ministry unit.

In the Canada and Bermuda Territory we are blessed with a multi-faceted chaplaincy ministry.  Spiritual and Religious Care is provided by a Salvation Army chaplain in many program areas, including the following:

  • Addictions Treatment
  • Community and Family Services
  • Correctional and Justice Services
  • Counselling Programs
  • Emergency Shelters / Transitional Housing / Supportive Housing Programs
  • Hospice
  • Hospitals
  • Long Term Care
  • Pregnant and Parenting Youth
