Good Morning Family Of God
Letter 6 June 29, 2020 By Majors Brenda & David Allen
Photo by Ben White on Upslash“Stop and Consider.”These are good words to begin a week with. They are not my words. They are the words spoken to Job in the midst of his life, complete with many complexities, much sadness and tremendous loss (Job 37:14). In this season of great difficulty Job is invited to ‘consider God’, the one who knows how the ‘clouds hang poised,’ (16) is ‘perfect in knowledge,’ (16), and ‘spreads out the skies’ (18). In the midst of our lives, ‘considering God’ is a good place to be.A few days ago, creation around me caused me to stop and consider our God. Last year church members planted a few perennials in our front, barren garden (thanks Rick and Liz!). This year we have enjoyed the bloom cycle and there are flowers of many colors. Captured by the variety of colour and character, I found myself singing a song from my teen years – “The Colouring Song”. It is amazing how these songs surface, hidden in the recesses of our mind. This song invited me to consider not only our Creator God who continues to intricately create, but the Creator God who continues to recreate our lives through his saving work in Christ Jesus. I invite you to enter my experience of stopping and considering. As you read each verse, listen for the voice of God. Consider the one who is ‘mighty and firm in his purpose’ (Job 36:5). Consider anew how Jesus has come to recreate us and display his beauty through us. You may want to google this folk type song by David John Eden.Red is the color of the blood that flowed
Down the face of Someone Who loved us so
He's the perfect man, He's the Lord's own son,
He's the Lamb of God, He's the only one
That can give us life, that can make us grow,
That can make the love between us flow.Blue is the color of a heart so cold
It will not bend when the story's told
Of the love of God for a sinful race
Of the blood that flowed down Jesus face
That can give us life, that can make us grow
That can keep our hearts from growing cold.Gold is the color of the morning sun
That shines so freely on everyone
It's the sun above that keeps us warm
It's the Son of love that calms the storm
That can give us life that can make us grow,
That can turn our mornings into gold.Brown is the color of the autumn leaves
When the winter comes to the barren trees
There is birth, there is death, there is a plan
And there's just one God, and there's just one man
That can give us life, that can make us grow
That can make our sins as white as snowThat can give us life, that can make us grow
That can turn our mornings into gold.
That can give us life, that can make us grow
That can keep our hearts from growing cold.
That can give us life, that can make us grow
That can make the love between us flow.God who creates, we greet you this morning. We know that as we stop to consider the magnitude of who you are, and all you have done for us, our hearts and minds are lifted to the true and the lovely, the good and the beautiful. Like Job, we too face days that can cause us to question life and your presence. By your grace, may we take the following words of scripture into our day. May we sing your song of salvation so that we can be life to others. AMEN“How blessed is God! And what a blessing he is! He’s the Father of our Master, Jesus Christ, and takes us to the high places of blessing in him. Long before he laid down earth’s foundations, he had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of his love… He wanted us to enter into the celebration of his lavish gift-giving by the hand of his beloved Son.Because of the sacrifice of the Messiah, his blood poured out on the altar of the Cross, we’re a free people—Abundantly free! He thought of everything, provided for everything we could possibly need, letting us in on the plans he took such delight in making."It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.”Ephesians 1:3-12 - (select verses)The Message ParaphraseWith care and in prayer,
