Good Morning Family Of God
Letter 12 July 23, 2020 By Brenda & David Allen
Photo by Ben White on Upslash“Sing them over again to me, wonderful words of life.” I grew up singing these words and for that I am most thankful. They remind me that there are words that speak and bring life.
There are still days, when I long to hear ‘words of life’ surrounding Covid19. I know there are hopes for a vaccine, coming, Lord willing, in the new year. This is a message I have heard repeated. Until then we do our best and wait. One day the words we long to hear will come our way. That will be a day of great celebration! Until then, I am reminded that there are words, ‘wonderful words of life’ that can be repeated. There are ‘wonderful words of life’, and in the speaking of them or the reading of them life is offered, on a daily basis.
In writing daily, I am reminded how important words are. A few words can say so much. We know this from our own lives when a few words have hurt, or a few words have healed. The right words can bring life. Jesus had the right words. He is the living Word. His words spoke truth and when spoken transformed lives and families. Today we hear living words of Jesus and because they are ‘living and active’ (Hebrews 4:12), they are able to bring us life.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love” (John 15:9).
“The thief comes only to kill steal and destroy; I have come that you might have life and, have it to the full” (John 10:10).
“Who needs a doctor: the healthy or the sick? I’m here inviting outsiders, not insiders – an invitation to a changed life, changed inside and out” (Luke 5:31-32, The Message).
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last” (John 15:16).
‘Wonderful words of life’ have now been given to each one of us. I am not sure which of those words speak to you but for me today the words ‘remain in my love’ are words that bring me life. I am caused to stop and consider the incredible love of God which is high and deep and wide. It is immeasurable! Love that is that great surely is concerned for my life and yours – in both our coming and going. I am reminded that the love of God will keep us, as during these pandemic days we await other words of life, regarding news about the long-awaited vaccine.
These words have been around for some time. Sing or say these words with me and together, may we be reminded, of the life that is found in the words of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
