Good Morning Family Of God 2021

The new strain of the Covid19 virus transmits easier. The increased numbers of Covid19 cases are putting an increased toll on our hospitals and health-care workers. This virus continues to exhibit its power. If it were a human, perhaps it would boast loudly about its strength. In response to its power our voices proclaim “No!” or “Ugh!”

On a day when we once again are faced with the reality of this powerful virus I am drawn to a few words; “Mightier than.” In Psalm 93 we read, “Mightier than the thunder of the great waters, mightier than the breakers of the sea – the Lord on high is mighty” (vs. 4).

There are many things that seek to demonstrate their power in our world.  Their boast is silenced in the presence of the one true living God known to us in Christ Jesus. The being of God and voice of God surpass all other beings and powers. Our God is “mightier than.”

To praise the God who is above, and exceeds, all things is life-bringing.  We allow the Psalmist to help us proclaim this truth today.

“Acknowledge the Lord, you heavenly beings,
acknowledge the Lord’s majesty and power.
Acknowledge the majesty of the Lord’s reputation.
Worship the Lord in holy attire.
    The Lord’s shout is heard over the water;
    the majestic God thunders,
the Lord appears over the surging water.
    The Lord’s shout is powerful,
    the Lord’s shout is majestic.
    The Lord’s shout breaks…
    The Lord’s shout strikes…
    The Lord’s shout shakes…
    The Lord’s shout bends…
Everyone in his temple says, “Majestic!” (Psalm 29:1-9).

The power of the virus builds, and builds, and its presence brings us to the point again and again of “No!” or “Ugh!” When the power of God is proclaimed – power over all things – power unlimited – power without end – we are brought to the opposite end of the spectrum where our voices shout with certainty and hope, “Majestic”, “Glory!”, “Awesome!”, “Wow!”.

“The Lord sits enthroned over the engulfing waters, (and Covid19 Virus),
the Lord sits enthroned as the eternal king.
    The Lord gives his people strength;
the Lord grants his people security.”
    (vs 10-11).

We cannot speak of the power of God without speaking of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.  In this we see absolute power.  In this is complete hope.  Because Jesus has conquered death we can be assured that “Jesus will deliver up the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power.  For He will reign until He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death” (1 Corinthians 15:24-26). Blessed assurance Jesus is mine!  Sing with me about our God who is “Mightier than!”

    Mighty is our God

    Mighty is our God
    Mighty is our King
    Mighty is our Lord
    Ruler of everything

    Glory to our God
    Glory to our King
    Glory to our Lord
    Ruler of everything!

    His name is higher
    Higher than any other name
    His power is greater
    For he has created everything!

    Mighty is our God
    Mighty is our King
    Mighty is our Lord
    Ruler of everything

Paul’s prayer for the church in Ephesus is a prayer for us today. Let us pray it for someone else, that they might know the power of the risen Lord Jesus Christ.

I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. The greatest power ever demonstrated was when Christ Jesus was raised from death to life” (Ephesians 1:17-23). AMEN
