Sometimes we just don’t know what to think anymore, Lord.
We’re now into the fourth month of this COVID-19 crisis and we seem to be rather used to it now -- almost to the point of it becoming the new normal. It’s so good that summer is here; because if we were just going into winter—a season of darkness, and starkness – we might not be able to cope as well. For at least in July we are delighting in the bright sunshine, hours of extended light, wonderful fresh air. We love to hear the birds singing their beautiful songs—oblivious to all we’re dealing with; the cool wind gently blowing through our hair; the children laughing and playing outside-- unaware of anything strange happening in the world around them.
When it comes right down to it, we still (at least most of us) have our health, our family and friends, our faith—and isn’t this all that really matters? True: many have lost income, a serious concern. True: many have died because of this ugly virus, causing heartache and pain. True: there is great instability, uncertainty, anxiety; even depression and fear for the future and what it may hold. True: we are missing community life, being completely free to gather with others. But, Lord, we’re doing the very best we can under these very strange and unsettling circumstances. Every day (some days better than others) we desperately try to keep positive, optimistic, hopeful—for our sake, and for the sake of others.
You never said life would be easy, Jesus. Others have lived through war times; through economic depressions; through experiences of crisis and turmoil—caused by various factors they have faced in life. And so we, Your people, can get through this. But only with You by our side, Father!
Thank you for Your faithfulness. Thank You for walking this journey with us, Lord, each and every day. You are all we ever want, all we ever need-- for today, tomorrow, and for all the days to come. We put our lives completely in Your hands, trusting and believing in You -- implicitly!
