Major - 1879 to 1930's
Unlike today, the rank of Major during the period of 1879 to the mid 1930’s was considered a Staff Officer rank and given based on the position held by the officer.
The trim is quite different from that of the current Major’s trim. In the minutes by the Chief of the Staff, T. Henry Howard, dated March 27, 1914, it indicated that the colour for the rank of Major would be a blue ground. This epaulet consists of a black braid encircling a plain blue epaulet.
The high collar is a blue patch with white “S” and a crest. The sleeve trimming is a solid blue stripe with braid.
See the current active Major description for details on our active Major rank.
