Senior Major - 1948 to 1959

On May 1, 1948 the rank of Senior Major was created and by October 1, 1959 it was made obsolete.

After completing seven years as a Major, the Officer is promoted to the rank of Senior-Major, but in certain appointments this rank may be given earlier.1

The rank of Senior-Major consisted of a black braid which encircles a red epaulet with a silver crest and a silver star above the crest.

The high collar would consist of a red patch five inches long with a point at each end, and a silver crest in the center of the patch. The epaulet would hold the silver star alone.

The low collar would consist of two silver "S”’s on two small patches which are placed on each lapel of the tunic.

Unless arranged to the contrary by the General, all proposals for promotion to Senior-Major and higher ranks shall be submitted to the Chief of the Staff.1

The rank of Senior Major became obsolete sometime in the 1960's.
