Shepherds 1953 - 1954
Sessional Picture
Sessional Members (Cadets)
There were ninety and nine that safely lay
In the shelter of the fold ... ,
But one was out on the hills away,
Far off from the gates of gold.
Lo My flock is folded beside Me,
Yet of these a lost one is straying;
These, My voice obeying,
One is yet denied Me,
Heavy is the grief I bear:
0 that unto Me thou hadst hearkened,
Heeding not the voice of. a stranger;
Thou hadst known no danger,
Naught thy way had darkened,
Safe within the Shepherd's care.
Far out in the night,
The Shepherd, seeking His own.
Is slowly climbing the mountain
height where His sheep may
wander alone;
Wounds many and deep,
To these He giveth no heed,
His love for His sheep His errand
will speed.
Deep in the wild, and deeper still,
The lost one, wand'ring, treads;
All unaware that swift, impending ill
Gathers as the darkness spreads.
Shepherd, whose heart Thy griefs
oppress,
As deep the darkness grows,
What of Thy pain, Thy sorrow and
distress?
Naught of these the wand'rer knows.
Safe homing at last!
0 Shepherd, weary with care,
Thy lost is found and the night is
past
And the dawn breaks joyous and
fair:
Hear, Shepherd our prayer,
We love the ninety and nine,
But grant us to share
This passion of Thine,
To seek, nor despair,
Thy lost to find,
0 Shepherd Divine.
