Brass Course
Brass Course is a graded tool that can be used in group settings or as an individual practice method book for any age and level. The pre-test material should be used to place each student in the appropriate level based on his/her ability. Final evaluations tests are provided for use as required. These should be completed and passed before moving on to the next level. Not everyone will progress at the same pace. It is advised to repeat or come back to a lesson so as to reinforce certain concepts.
In addition, the Brass Course is designed as a companion to the Music Theory course. Students should utilize the music theory books to help advance their knowledge of music making.

Placement Test - Instructor

Level 1
Topics covered include: buzzing and producing sound, playing C to G, note values (whole to quarter), playing higher (G to C), introduction to dynamics and tempo. The Level 1 Final Test is available separately. An Eb adaptation and Bass Clef adaptation are available separately at the buttons below.

Topics covered include: bar lines and time signatures, accidentals, major scales (C, Bb and D major), tonguing and articulation. The Level 2 Final Test is available separately. An Eb adaptation and a Bass Clef adaptation are available separately at the buttons below.

Topics covered include: eighth notes and rests, ties, slurs, dotted notes, dynamic and tempo changes, more major scales (Eb, Ab, F, G). The Level 3 Final Test is available separately. An Eb adaptation and a Bass Clef adaptation are available separately at the buttons below.

Topics covered include: compound time signatures, sixteenth notes and rests, repeat signs, the chromatic scale. The Level 4 Final Test is available separately. An Eb adaptation and a Bass Clef adaptation are available separately at the buttons below.

Topics covered include: warm up routine, tempo, tuning, triplets, stylistic development (legato, marcato), technique development (arpeggio patterns). The Level 5 Final Test is available separately. An Eb adaptation and a Bass Clef adaptation are available separately at the buttons below.

Topics covered include: stylistic development (swing, leggiero), technique development (arpeggio patterns), time signatures (2/2, 5/4, 12/8), minor scales (C, D, F natural minor). Topics covered include: stylistic development (playing loud), technique development (double tonguing), time signatures (3/2, 4/2, 7/8, 10/8), expanding the range. Topics covered include: stylistic development (traditional, contemporary), technique development (triple tonguing), expressive sound (vibrato), other techniques (trill, tremolo, grace note).
