COLONEL GIDEON MILLER

Gideon’s conversion was largely due to the faithful dealing of a Salvationist shop mate. So convinced was he by what his friend had said to him that he could not sleep and at midnight all alone in his room, he called upon God to save him. On the following night he went publicly to the Army penitent Form. He straight way became a Soldier.

Through offering to assist a cadet at a certain Corps he got a taste of the joy of a soul winners’ life. He wrote is application on the big drum because they possessed no table in the quarters. He was accepted and appointed to Gananoque, ON.

AS a Captain he commanded eleven Corps. Promoted to Ensign in 1893, he took charge of the Guelph Corps and District. Other Corps commands included Chatham, Petrolia, Simcoe, Moncton, Sydney and Yarmouth. In 1899 he was appointed District Officer for Bermuda where he had a two year stay.

He was appointed Building Superintendent at Territorial Headquarters where is study architecture and remained for 18 years.

He was appointed Property Secretary in 1915 and in 1918 he and Mrs. Miller were admitted to the Long Service Order. In 1917 he rendered magnificent service during the aftermath of recover effort from the Halifax Explosion.

Appointed as Field Secretary in 1922 at the death of Colonel Rawlings, he spent four years working hard.

Mrs. Miller (nee Captain Bella Stubbs) has an equal length of service with her husband having entered the work from Walkerton in 1886. She had a successful Field career, commanding ten Corps as a Captain. She was married to Captain Miller in 1892.
