COLONEL WILLIAM DALZIEL

In 1904, William entered the Army’s work from King’s Cross, London England having been the child of Salvationist parents. He entered the International Training Garrison, which at that time was situated at Clapton, London. For some years as garrison training officer he combined with his duties the bandmastership of the Cadet’s band and in this way, by force of his Salvationism, he commanded himself to his men, many of who are now officers in many parts of the world. For a period, while still an officer, he was bandmaster of Clapton Congress Hall band.

As officer in charge of the Salvation Army ambulance unit in France during the first World War, he rendered meritorious war service by forming his workers into a band which when relieved from military duty made such activities possible. Later he was appointed chief organizer of the Life-Saving Scouts and from that position of influence he was made Divisional Commander successively in the Leicester, Liverpool and South London Divisions.

National Headquarters work followed again, this time as Assistant to the Chief Secretary and later as Assistant Chief Secretary. On January 11, 1931 he became Chief Secretary for the Canada East Territory

Mrs. Dalziel, who before her marriage was Ensign Lily Bingle, has contributed much to her husband’s abundant labors and has accompanied him on many tours and campaigns.
