Brigadier - 1889 to 1930's

In 1889, came the news that Major George A Kilbey had become a Brigadier with oversight of all operations in the colony of New South Whales.

Unlike today, the rank of Brigadier during the period of 1910 to the mid 1930’s was considered a Staff Officer rank and given based on the position held by the officer.

The trim is quite different from that of the current Brigadier’s trim. In the minutes by the Chief of the Staff, T. Henry Howard, dated March 27, 1914, it indicated that the colour for the rank of Brigadier would be a purle. This epaulet consists of a black braid encircling a plain purple epaulet.

The high collar is a purple patch with white “S” and a crest. The sleeve trimming is a solid purple stripe with braid.

See 1930's to 1974 Brigadier description for details on the Brigadier rank of that time period.
