10k/25k Prayer Runs

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere. (Eph 6:18)

Goals:

  • To teach a different way to pray
  • To connect perseverance in prayer with perseverance in physical activity
  • For youth to be Christ’s presence in their community
  • To encourage creative & intercessory prayer

For junior high youth, prayer walks are a chance to put their faith into action while having fun outside. Planning a route in advance helps you to cover specific places, like churches, schools or friends houses. You'll also come across things to pray for en route, like closed businesses, lost dog posters or new neighbours moving in. Remember to keep your eyes open for opportunities!

For high school youth and young adults, prayer walking is a simple discipline to include in your faith walk. Look for flower memorials on the roadside, remember bad intersections. As you go, ask people you pass if they'd like you to pray for them. If you're a soldier, consider wearing your uniform.

Here is a basic outline for a prayer walk

  1. Start with prayer, either individually, or by a leader for a group.
  2. Walk/run selected route, stopping to pray at both pre-selected locations and for spontaneous prayers along the way.
  3. Finish with prayer.
