Phase One

STEP 1 SHARE YOUR INTEREST

  • If you are interested in full time ministry within The Salvation Army, the first step is to talk to your corps officer/ministry unit leader. 

  • Complete the Applicant Readiness Self-Assessment survey to help assess your readiness to become a Salvation Army officer

  • Consider joining Candidates Connect -  a network of Salvationists committed to pursuing the possibility of officership, under God’s direction. When you are ready, corps officer/ministry unit leader (CO/MU Leader) will bring the Divisional Secretary for Candidates (DSC) into the conversation to advise you regarding the application process. They will guide you through the different phases and will provide you with links to all checklists and forms.

STEP 2 APPLICATION PROCESS FOR PATHWAYS TO SERVICE

Your CO/MU Leader and DSC will work with you to complete the Phase 1 documents. Upon completion, your CO/MU Leader will provide the DSC with the documents. They review them then present your Phase 1 documents to the Divisional Candidates Board (DCB)/ Divisional Commander (DC) for endorsement. Click here for the Phase 1 paperwork checklist.

STEP 3 ENGAGING DIVISIONAL LEADERS

The DSC receives and reviews the application package and presents it to the DCB/DC for endorsement and submission to the Territorial Secretary for Candidates (TSC)

STEP 4 REVIEW BY TERRITORIAL SECRETARY FOR CANDIDATES

Upon review of Phase 1 forms, the TSC will either authorize advancement to Phase 2 or make further recommendations for the candidate applying.


Phase Two

STEP 5  AND 6 - COMPLETION OF PHASE 2 FORMS

  • Step 5 is completing the Health forms. 
  • Step 6 is completing the Academic, Finance, Employment and Ministry Assessment forms.

Your CO/MU Leader will submit the completed Phase Two documents to DHQ for their review.

STEP 7 DIVISIONAL CANDIDATES’ BOARD INTERVIEW

The DCB will invite you for an interview to further explore your understanding of full-time ministry and the expectations that are attached to spiritual leadership in The Salvation Army. Upon endorsement, your completed application package will be forwarded to the TSC.

STEP 8 TERRITORIAL CANDIDATES’ COUNCIL PRESENTATION

The Territorial Secretary for Candidates will present your case to the Territorial Candidates’ Council for official consideration of acceptance into training.

STEP 9 ACCEPTANCE

Congratulations! You will receive official confirmation of your acceptance, along with additional details and instructions for your specific pathway to service. A candidate’s pin will be presented to you during a public service.
