What is Good Soil ?
Good Soil is a series the Ethics Centre publishes five times a year. The title is inspired by the parable of the sower. Jesus teaches us that good soil allows a seed to produce a harvest beyond our wildest dreams (Mark 4:20, The Message).
We live in a complex world. Every day we face personal challenges that are not easy to overcome. We can feel helpless in the face of global issues like climate change and war. And we can easily become overwhelmed by anxiety. The purpose of this series is to remind us as communities of faith that there is good soil all around us. Good Soil gets us thinking and talking about the challenging issues we face. It calls us to act in ways that don't give in to fear but remain faithful to the teachings of Jesus.
This series encourages us to think, talk, and act by drawing on scripture, Salvation Army resources, stories and experiences, and current events.
Between September 2025 and June 2026 the theme of Good Soil is values. We will have the opportunity to explore our personal values and learn about the territorial core values. Values help us interpret the world around us and guide our responses to the complexities of the day.
