Salvation Army leaders from all of Africa assembled in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique, for the Africa Zonal Conference to capture General Linda Bond's vision for the future of the Salvation Army as well as to share with her the African perspective.
Preceding the conference the General inaugurated Maxixe Corps hall, which is situated in a complex that will house the South Divisional Headquarters of this new territory. The other leaders were divided into groups to visit corps in the Maputo Capital Division.
This beginning set the tone for the discussions that were to take place during the conference, where the fundamentals and essentials of the Salvation Army were studied, debated and strengthened.
At departure all left to their different countries energised by what the Lord had done during the week, and by the Mozambican hospitality.
“Every opportunity of telling our story and strengthening the mutual understanding between International Headquarters and the Canada and Bermuda Territory is welcomed and celebrated.”
Territorial leaders reflect on the most pressing social issues these countries face, the Army’s relationship with the Catholic Church, and how God is at work and changing lives.
This April, Lillian “Lil” McLeod celebrated an impressive milestone as a Salvationist—96 years on the Salvation Army roll at Medicine Hat Community Church, Alta., and 80 years as a senior soldier.
