The Salvation Army has a long history and a rich heritage in building the Kingdom of God through outreach, evangelism and discipleship. We used to accomplish this mission objective through open-air and Sunday night salvation meetings, but our Canadian culture and context have changed and our methods need to evolve also. That is why the Corps Mission Department is excited to endorse Alpha as one of the primary outreach and evangelism tools and methods for our corps across the Territory.
Alpha is a resource that can be used to create a space and a culture where people are excited to bring their friends for a conversation about Jesus. Alpha can be run almost anywhere – from a church basement to a restaurant or online, and, it has a lasting impact on guests and church communities. It is simple to run, economical to acquire and effective in Kingdom results. Alpha is offered in multiple languages, is applicable for multiple contexts, and can be geared toward adults or youth. It can be used as an outreach ministry, in existing small groups, in marriage courses, or to serve teens by helping them make the connection between meaning, belonging, impact, and the joy of having their friends come to know Jesus.
Our team in the Corps Mission Department wants to encourage you to consider Alpha at your corps. We are here to assist and support you, and we can connect you with the trained coaches at Alpha Canada. We also want to introduce you to John and Margaret Tillsley, our Territorial Alpha Champions. They are passionate about Alpha and have run over 15 successful courses at their home corps in Aurora, just north of Toronto. They too are available to support, advise and coach you through the early stages of your Alpha experience.
