We live in a world full of mission opportunities. We do not need to go beyond the borders of our own community to discover God’s mission field. However, sometimes God calls us beyond the borders of our local community to the broader world to minister in His name.
The Mission of The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory states that “The Salvation Army exists to share the love of Jesus Christ, meet human needs and be a transforming influence in the communities of our world.”
International short term missions provide a magnificent opportunity for Christian communities to come together to support and resource one another in very practical ways. They provide an opportunity for Salvationists to broaden our thinking, and expose us to global issues that can be examined through a theological lens and shape our Christian identity.
We believe that short term missions provide an opportunity for salvationists from different cultures to come together and grow together in community. The Bible calls us to ‘go into all the world and make disciples’ (Mark 16:15).
We believe that the purpose and goal of a short term mission is fourfold:
- Practical Assistance
- Personal and Spiritual Growth
- Empowerment and fulfillment of all team members and local beneficiaries
- An experience that brings sustainable change to lives and communities
