The Salvation Army in Taiwan is continuing to provide help to people affected by the devastation caused by Typhoon Morakot. In the latest response, disinfectant kits were supplied to 1,800 homes and Salvation Army team members helped with the clean-up operation.
Lieut-Colonel Mike Caffull (International Emergency Services) is on his way to Taiwan and will be joined in the next few days by Major Francis Ng and Captain Julian Wong of The Salvation Army's Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar Territory. These three experienced relief workers will join forces with local Salvationists to coordinate the Salvation Army response with that of other relief agencies.
An appeal by the Chief of the Staff, Commissioner Robin Dunster (The Salvation Army's second-in-command) to the Salvation Army world has already brought in more than US$200,000 but more is needed to respond to one of the greatest disasters ever to hit Taiwan.
