Salvation Army leaders from all of Africa assembled in Maputo, the capital city of Mozambique, for the Africa Zonal Conference to capture General Linda Bond's vision for the future of the Salvation Army as well as to share with her the African perspective.
Preceding the conference the General inaugurated Maxixe Corps hall, which is situated in a complex that will house the South Divisional Headquarters of this new territory. The other leaders were divided into groups to visit corps in the Maputo Capital Division.
This beginning set the tone for the discussions that were to take place during the conference, where the fundamentals and essentials of the Salvation Army were studied, debated and strengthened.
At departure all left to their different countries energised by what the Lord had done during the week, and by the Mozambican hospitality.
The Salvation Army's work has always been about both discipleship and evangelism—serving people in need while proclaiming the hope of Christ. But we must ask ourselves: are we still effectively sharing the good news in a way that engages the world around us? Are we innovating in our outreach methods to meet the needs of a rapidly changing society?
Corps across the territory are incorporating Alpha into their ministry strategies, from group gatherings over shared meals to outreach efforts for youth.
