When her family faced serious health challenges last year, Stephanie needed encouragement and support. Her church was far from home, but The Salvation Army’s Cedar Hill Corps was just across the street—so she decided to make the switch.
“My nephew and son ended up in the ICU at the same time,” she says. “The women at the corps welcomed me with open arms and prayed for my family. They’ve been so supportive.”
She joined the women’s ministries group, which hosts events every month to uplift women across the island.
“The atmosphere is lovely. The women are so loving; they invite you into their family,” she shares.
Stephanie credits the ministry for being a companion throughout that challenging period in her life, but participating has not just helped lift her spirits. She also enjoys the creative side of the gatherings, especially crafting Christmas ornaments and making kites, which are traditionally flown around Eastertime in Bermuda.
“The activities are always good. They’re fun, and you learn a lot.”
Since joining, Stephanie has become more social and now looks forward to every meeting.
for a Salvation Army retreat
Although one of the reasons Stephanie joined was due to proximity, she ended up travelling to Canada thanks to the ministry, when members visited Nova Scotia for a Salvation Army retreat.
Stephanie had a great time and returned feeling refreshed and with a deeper understanding of Scripture. She particularly enjoyed learning how to practise prayer in different ways.
“During one of the workshops, I was introduced to a prayer colouring book, and that stood out to me,” Stephanie says.
Reflecting on her experiences, Stephanie says the women’s ministry has become a meaningful part of her life, and she is grateful to have fellow participants alongside her during tough times.
Women’s ministry events are held at St. George’s Corps and Cedar Hill Corps in Bermuda. Visit salvationarmy.bm/churches for more information.
