Living History is an ongoing series showcasing just a small assortment of the more than 350,000 items housed at The Salvation Army Heritage Centre in Toronto. This month, we spotlight half a dozen of the centre’s humble collection of more than 250 bookmarks.
The collection of bookmarks housed at the Heritage Centre, some more than a century old, vary in year, geographic location, quote or motto, and associated officers. While there isn’t a lot of information about these bookmarks, it is likely that they were given out to Salvationists and friends by corps officers, or they were sent by divisional or territorial leaders, as season’s greetings (usually including a Bible quote), to officers from corps as a thoughtful memento.
