In The Salvation Army, it’s common to have specific appointments for women’s ministries, as well as for children and youth. But in many places, there is no equivalent position for men’s ministries.
Not so in the Ontario Division, where Captain Josh Howard is the divisional men’s ministry resource officer, along with his appointment as corps officer in Orillia. On this episode of the podcast we talk about the importance—and uniqueness—of men’s ministries, the male loneliness crisis, and how any corps can build a successful ministry for men, with all generations involved.

Wise words Josh. Freedom Ministries in partnership with SA Rideau Heights (one of your former appointments) brought back Open Door (men’s) Fellowship (ODF) last fall. ODF is somewhat specialized bringing prisoners and men from the community together for fellowship, pro-social Christian teaching, and heartfelt group discussion. The vibe is very much one beggar leading another beggar to bread; though of greatly varied social status and life experiences, we come together simply as men united in our shared need of a saviour, and meaningful fellowship. It’s been powerful, God be praised! ps miss you brother.
