Consider this fitting definition: "Leadership is energizing a community of people toward their own transformation in order to accomplish a shared mission in the face of a changing world." Penned by Tod Bolsinger in Canoeing the Mountains, this definition has become a cornerstone in TSA’s leadership development programming, emphasizing the necessity of collaboration and resilience at all levels. When the path before us unexpectedly shifts from rivers to mountains, like Lewis and Clark, we must set aside our canoes and adapt to new challenges. Using this famed expedition as a metaphor, Bolsinger draws on his experience as pastor and consultant to explore effective leadership in a changing world.

Major Doug Binner, Director of Corps Life at THQ, is eager to support and resource a “transformational mission in the face of a changing world”. Quoting Bolsinger once again, “For church leaders facing this missional moment, the reframing of church strategy from a sanctuary-centered, membership-based, religious service provider to a local mission outpost for furthering the Kingdom of God enables our congregations to discover a faithful expression of our corporate identity in a changing world.”
To secure the future of congregational life and corps ministry in The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda, our corps leaders must embrace new vision, new methods and new courage to lead their congregations into new terrain and new adventure. As together we embrace an adventure-or-die mindset, the mission of Christ need not fail and the Kingdom of our Lord can reign forever and ever (Rev 11:15).
