Interview with Captains Derek and Marren Pluchinski

Captains Derek and Marren Pluchinski are Salvation Army officers serving in Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories where The Salvation Army operates a corps and resource centre. Captain Derek Pluchinski is the corps officer, giving vision and oversight to the Salvation Army's church congregation. Captain Marren Pluchinski is the Director of Program for Addictions and Corrections.

Captains Derek and Marren Pluchinski articulate well the challenges of the north and our work with that culture. To add to Captain Marren's comments, the work of The Salvation Army is also in Whitehorse, Yukon where Captains Robert and Johannah Sessford give oversight to a significant work including a shelter, feeding program, Drop-in Centre, Half way house for inmates, Corps, Thrift Store and Family Service program. Our work in Iqaluit includes a 20 bed shelter and some help to those in the area with emergency food as well as visitation in the hospital. The work of TSA in northern Canada is a challenge as we work with all levels of Government who are aware of our role to be a transforming influence in these communities.
