The Salvation Army's Dignity Project is designed to educate the public about the reality of poverty in the 21st century–and underscore the point that everyone deserves basic human dignity.

Today, approximately three million Canadians, or one in 11 people, live in poverty. The Salvation Army recognizes that poverty is a critical issue, and that everyone has a right to access basic necessities such as nutritious food, health care, education and economic opportunity.

The Salvation Army has declared May to be Dignity Month and will host a national event to promote the campaign.

“Dignity Speaks” will be held at The Salvation Army Toronto Harbour Light, 161 Jarvis Street (at Shuter, north of Queen Street) on Sunday, May 15th. Doors open at 8:00 p.m.

Featuring the two-time Juno award-winning group, Downhere, and hosted by the voice of the Toronto Raptors, Herbie Kuhn, this evening will entertain, educate and inspire those wishing to learn more about The Salvation Army's Dignity Project.
