The Jesus Our Compass tour continued in the British Columbia Division this week as Salvationists converged on Cariboo Hill Temple, Burnaby, for Sunday worship with our international leaders, General Lyndon Buckingham and Commissioner Bronwyn Buckingham. The Holy Spirit’s presence was felt as many gathered at the mercy seat for prayer following the General’s message.

Cariboo Hill Temple also hosted a youth rally in the evening, where young Salvationists enjoyed a "Truth and Tenders" time with the leaders, which included food, fellowship and a candid Q&A with the Buckinghams, along with worship and prayer.

On Monday evening, Lt-Colonel Tiffany Marshall, divisional commander, kicked off the division’s Compass2026 Conference at Cascade Community Church, Abbotsford, with more than 200 in attendance. Delegates came together to explore The Salvation Army’s global strategic framework, designed to revitalize spiritual and missional life. Retired officer Major Sam Fame and Salvationist Don Armstrong were presented with Others Awards for their exceptional service to the Army and the community.

Earlier on Monday, the General and Commissioner Buckingham unveiled the dedicatory plaque for the new Harbour Light facility in Vancouver, a major nine-storey social services and housing complex currently under construction in the Downtown Eastside. Major Jennifer Hillier, secretary for social mission, welcomed those gathered and Jim Coggles, executive director, conducted a tour.

Brian Dust, principal architect of NSDA, which designed the building, noted: “Seeing residents have a new home and receive compassionate care from Salvation Army staff is always heartwarming and a joy for us to be able to be part of team helping our community.”

The international leaders also toured Belkin House, a residential facility in downtown Vancouver dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness, and the new emergency disaster services (EDS) training and command centre in Abbotsford with Ian Pollard, divisional director of EDS for British Columbia.

Prior to these ministry unit tours, senior Salvation Army leaders and Vancouver Advisory Board members were inspired by the General’s message at a leadership breakfast.
