A Message from Commissioner Floyd J. Tidd:

Canadians were shocked and deeply saddened by the mass shooting in Nova Scotia this past weekend. Our hearts go out to the families and communities that were affected by such a senseless loss of life. On behalf of the Canada and Bermuda Territory, and The Salvation Army around the world, I want to offer our condolences.

We particularly think of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and other first-responders, who bravely reacted to the emergency and put themselves in harm’s way to protect their communities. We grieve the loss of RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson, who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to her country, and we extend our sympathies to her family and loved ones.

The victims also included a teacher, young couples, nurses, new parents, retirees … All of them of infinite value and worth. All of them mourned.

We all feel connected in some way to these terrible events. I have roots in Nova Scotia in the Annapolis Valley, where my father was born and raised—so this tragedy has hit home in a very personal way.

To all those affected, The Salvation Army stands with you, ready to offer our support. Whether it’s emotional and spiritual care, a listening ear, or practical assistance, we are available. We invite all Canadians to reach out and contact their local Salvation Army.

In times like this, we can lean on one another. We mourn with the people of Nova Scotia and pray for strength, resilience and healing. Psalm 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” We can rely on his strength and promises, even in these difficult times. Together, we can overcome this tragedy. May God bless you.

Thank you for your words Commissioner Tidd, I moved from there only 2 short years ago and keep thinking of all my friends who live there still and especially those I know who live in the affected area
