The Salvation Army in Canada and Bermuda is dedicated to the reconciliation journey with Indigenous Peoples in Canada, in alignment with many other churches nationwide. This commitment is rooted in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, which serves as a framework for reconciliation.

Among the 94 Calls to Action, Call to Action #48 had a specific deadline of March 31, 2016, urging churches and faith groups to issue statements on how they would implement these principles. The Salvation Army responded to this call on March 30, 2016, through both an ecumenical response and a dedicated statement from the Canada and Bermuda Territory, pledging faithfulness in implementing the Declaration.

Captain Crystal Porter, our Indigenous Ministries Consultant, leads these efforts. Indigenous Ministries, once part of the Corps Mission Department, is now integrated into the Community Mission Department, highlighting our holistic approach to mission and community engagement. We invite you to join us on this crucial journey toward reconciliation and unity.
