SELF-CARE TRAINING
Canada and Bermuda Territory

This training is composed of 7 modules that can be completed online at anytime, from anywhere for free and at your own pace within 6 months. Each module consists of teaching videos while providing access to applicable resources. In order to move on to the next module, a short multiple choice and true or false exam is required to test the knowledge gain by each student. Individuals who successful complete each module will receive a Certificate of Completion. This certificate takes approximately 2 hours to complete.


Training Description

This training focuses on the theory and practical application of self-care in our personal and professional lives. Participants will learn what is self-care and why is it important from both a biblical and practical perspective. This training will explore the concepts of compassion fatigue, burnout and vicarious trauma while identifying signs/symptoms and who may be at higher risk of experiencing them. Participants will learn about the importance of coping strategies, primary and secondary prevention while being provided with examples and tools to implement them in their own lives. Tools and resource will also be provided so participants can assess their personal and professional well-being and develop their own self-care maintenance plan.

Module Description:

Module 1: The Importance of Self Care (Theory) – Explores the concept and importance of self care from a biblical and practical perspective. 

Module 2: Compassion Fatigue (Theory)  – Defines and explains the concept of compassion fatigue with special attention to the signs/symptoms.

Module 3: Burnout (Theory) – Defines and explains the concept of burnout emphaising what leads to it and the signs/symptoms.

Module 4: Vicarious Trauma (Theory) – Defines and explains the concept of vicarious trauma.  Attention will also be placed on common signs/symptoms and who can be at higher risk of experiencing it.  Participants will be provided with resources to determine if their lifestyle is causing stress, how well they are currently engaging in self-care, and their current state around compassion fatigue and burnout.  

Module 5: Coping Strategies (Practical Application) – Defines and explains concept of coping strategies and their importance in self-care.  A focus will be placed on two coping strategies:  Escape, rest, and play and ABCs.

Module 6: Primary Prevention (Practical Application) – Defines and explains what are primary prevention strategies for self care while providing specific examples of what they are and how to implement in personal and professional settings. 

Module 7: Secondary Prevention (Practical Application) – Defines and explains what are secondary prevention strategies for self care while providing specific examples of what they are and how to implement in personal and professional settings.  Participants will also be provide with a resource to create their own self-care maintenance plan.
