Key Points
- The Power of Mentorship - Positive mentorship relationships are incredibly important and are a powerful tool in MSHT prevention work with young women, specifically teenagers. Mentor relationships can fill the gaps where teen girls would typically be vulnerable to traffickers. They provide teenage girls with someone they can talk to and feel safe with. These relationships give teen girls a sense of consistency and stability, encouragement, and they know that somebody cares for them and is in their corner. And, when there is enough positive relationship equity built, they trust what you have to say and take seriously the information you teach them about the signs and realities of trafficking.
- The Need for Collaboration - Collaborating with experts in research, health, and police institutions reinforces the resilience of our community and allows for holistic support and expertise in programming and providing support.
- Enhanced Utilization of Peer Mentors - Peer mentors are important and needed to address the critical issue of modern-day human trafficking. This approach integrates the lived experiences of survivors and follows the "nothing for us without us" philosophy.
- Sustainable Funding - The ongoing lack of sustainable funding remains a significant challenge, affecting both service provision and accessibility. There is a critical need for funding to offer resources and interventions to address this urgent issue effectively.
- Starting & Joining Committees, Networks & Coalitions For all the MSHT Response ministries in communities for the PNT Division, there were intentional steps taken in joining or forming them. Planning, implementing and sustaining operation of these groups include governance structure; identifying scope and mandate; inclusive membership and evaluation of outcomes.
