Scott Yake, M.Ed

Learning and Development Strategist

E: scott.yake@salvationarmy.ca

P: (416) 899-1191

With 31 of experience throughout the Ontario public education system, Scott has brought exceptional organizational tools and strategies to The Salvation Army’s Leadership Development team since joining January 2021.

As the Learning and Development Strategist, he is an integral part of creating practice-focused, relational, cohesive and inclusive training and education opportunities in the Army.

Scott started his career in public education as a teacher, working his way up to Principal, Superintendent, and eventually Associate Director in Ontario’s third largest school board. His willingness to lead and empower diverse teams at both the school and system levels has impacted countless areas of public education — Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, School Operations, Human Resources, Labour Relations, and Leadership Development — and it’s what makes him the perfect fit for TSA.

Scott also brings with him special expertise from his two years spent as a Special Advisor for the Ministry of Education in Ontario, including pandemic management and labour negotiations.

Phil Wakeford, M.A., B.Ed.

Manager, Learning Design

E: phil.wakeford@salvationarmy.ca

P: (613) 805-8667

Phil spent nearly ten years supporting young parents with their education and employment goals at The Salvation Army Bethany Hope Centre in Ottawa and he now brings that support for learners with him to the Leadership Development Team. He’s excited for the opportunity to work more widely with officers and staff from across the territory.

Before arriving at TSA, Phil completed his M.A. in Religion and earned his Bachelor's in Education. While working as a frontline staff member, Phil also worked in online and traditional classrooms with the local school board and a private online education institution. His students have been mostly adult learners, and the challenges faced by TSA clients in particular motivated Phil to pursue special teacher training in adult education, guidance, teaching English language learners, and online learning design and delivery.
