Pakistan
Pakistan, officially the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, is a sovereign country in South Asia. With a population exceeding 180 million, it is the sixth most populous country in the world and almost 95 percent of the population is Muslim. The capital is Islamabad. The currency used is the Pakistan Rupee.
Pakistani food today consists of staple ingredients which are affordable and abundant. Wheat and other flour products are the mainstay of the diet, one familiar form being CHAPATI, an unleavened bread akin to a Mexican tortilla. A large percentage of the commercial activities include the sale of handicraft items such as the carpets for which Pakistan is well known.
The Salvation Army began work in Pakistan in 1883. There are more than 350 Others - Trade for Hope producers in Pakistan. Their work with Others allows women to support themselves and their families and especially ensure that young women receive an education.
